HOORAH FOR HALEIGH!!

May justice prevail . . .
Never Before Seen Video of Haleigh Poutre

Story Updated: Nov 19, 2008 at 1:29 AM EST

A never before seen video gives a rare glimpse at the life of Haleigh Poutre, more than three years after she was allegedly beaten into a coma.

Poutre Family Sees Haleigh for First Time in Two Years
The courtroom fell silent for nearly half an hour as jurors were shown the first video of Haleigh as she looks and acts today.

She wears a body brace and leg casts, can not sit up or stand on her own and cannot walk without support.

"She moves her legs and pushes a walker about 20 or 30 feet," says Dr. Jeffrey Forman of the Franciscan Children's Hospital. "Her best effort might have been 100 feet."

To communicate Haleigh uses a letter board to spell out what she wants to say, and though she can speak, doctors say her words are nearly incomprehensible.

"I think that's one of the shortcomings of the video, we're not able to hear what her voice is really like," says Forman. "It would have shown just how severely her voice is effected."

Haleigh's stepfather and alleged abuser, Jason Strickland, stared blankly as the video was shown. He is accused of pushing Haleigh down the stairs of their Westfield home in September of 2005. And though the video shows the lasting effect of severe brain trauma, the jury also viewed pictures of Haleigh when she was first brought to the hospital.

The photos show injuries already starting to heal, the most gruesome of which is a large burn in the center of Haleigh's chest. Prosecutors say a heat gun was held against her skin. Each cut, burn and bruise painted a disturbing picture of alleged abuse that ultimately denied Haleigh a chance at a normal life.

"She's unable to take care of her daily needs," says Forman. "She can't go to the bathroom by herself, she needs assistance for feeding."

Mom in China Freed Without Forced Abortion
Pregnant Mother's Case Drew International Attention and Outrage

By ANNA SCHECTER and MADDY SAUER
Nov. 18, 2008—

A six-month pregnant mother of two who faced a forced abortion by Chinese authorities has been freed and allowed to continue her pregnancy, according to Radio Free Asia. The case had attracted international attention and outrage.

Arigul Tursun was scheduled to undergo the abortion against her will as early as today because authorities said she was entitled to only two children, according to the Uyghur Human Rights Project.

"I am all right and I am home now," Tursun told RFA.

The local population control committee chief reportedly said Tursun was released because "she wasn't in good enough health to have an abortion."

Tursun had earlier escaped from the hospital where she was kept under guard. Her husband said village authorities threatened to confiscate his house and farmland if his wife wasn't found. Police later tracked her down at the home of a relative.

The case sparked outrage in the U.S. among members of Congress. Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) called forced abortions a "barbaric practice" and made a personal appeal on behalf of Tursun directly to the Chinese ambassador.

"Twice Arzigul has fled and been recaptured by China's population control cadres," said Smith. "Is the Chinese government really going to forcibly abort a third-trimester baby, after the mother's desperate efforts to save her child have become a global news story? We hope and pray they will hear the mother's plea and refrain from such brutality."

Rep. Joe Pitt (R-Penn.) also called for Tursun's release. "I call on the Chinese government to immediately intervene in order to stop any forced abortion from taking place," said Pitt. "Though we know Chinese authorities regularly used forced abortions to enforce its coercive population control program, carrying out this brutal procedure with the world watching Arzigul Tursun's case would display an utter disregard for any notion of human rights by Chinese authorities."

China's One Child Policy

Tursun and her family are members of the Uyghur Muslim group based in China's western region of Xinjiang.

China's one-child policy applies mainly to the Han Chinese majority in China, but allows ethnic minorities, including Uyghurs, to have additional children, with peasants permitted to have three children and city-dwellers to have two, according to China's official news agency.

But while Tursun is a peasant, her husband is from a city so their status was unclear.

The Best Thing Happened To End Black Genocide
The People in Darkness Will See a Great Light

Contact: Rev Clenard H. Childress Jr, 201-740-9325

WASHINGTON, November 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- Now is the time to ride the wave of the Spirit of social justice and free those who have been unlawfully sentenced to die. Yes, now is the time! We can never think God has not heard the silent cries of innocent blood being shed. That cry ascends to His merciful ear day after day. November 4th, 2008 will always be remembered for the election of Barack Obama, the most pro-abortion presidential candidate in the history of the United States. I was quickened with the understanding it will also mark the day of the greatest opportunity ever to have been handed me, as well as other Civil Rights Activists for the unborn. No, it's not what I asked for, but it's what I have been praying for since I first heard of the holocaust levied against babies in America and especially those in the African-American Community.

With the election of Barack Obama, we now have a face to put on the abortion plague and a link to the leader of the abortion industry, Planned Parenthood. Despite our efforts, in reality, the time to make this connection was clouded by the notoriety of the first black president and a failing economy. The result is: people still don't know who Barack Obama is and many are now looking deeper into the president elect's life and associations. The truth is: knowing his defeat would only minimize this exposure to America, God has now set it up for a global impact of astronomical proportions.

We have a global audience -

We as defenders of the rights of the unborn, now have a face to attach to the decimation of the Black Community and to wake up our community which has been asleep on this critical issue. You say, how? Well, if you knocked on 5,000 doors in Harlem or any other Black Community and asked the question, "who is Cecile Richards?" I guarantee you at least 4,999 would say, "I don't know!" They don't know she is the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood and is leading the genocide of infants in the Black Community. If you went back and asked that same 5,000 of who Barack Obama is, I guarantee you every one of them knows that name! Now, all that is left for me and those likeminded to do, is to connect the dots and challenge individuals to look at the legacy and history of Planned Parenthood and the bond Barack Obama has with them. This will cause them to know the history of America's leading infant killer and read speeches by Barack Obama commending them on their killing. Result: guilt by association! We have never had such an important key given to us to reach the Black Community and it is up to every willing worker to contribute and support this golden opportunity.

Let me quickly quote a salient statement from Margaret Sanger in her letter to the heir of Proctor and Gamble, Clarence Gamble:

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. (Dare I say: Community organizer?) The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

The United States has elected (hired) a man who totally fits the criterion laid out by Margaret Sanger. Can you believe that? Why? If God is sovereign, and He is; and if His word is true, and it is; then He it is He who, "sets kings up and puts kings down." God decides who our rulers are going to be, good, bad or indifferent. If abortion is America's most egregious sin, and it is; and the set-time to address it has come, and it has; then we will have to make our case clear enough for the persons who are most effected to see it clearly – the African-American Community. We have it set before us as never before!

After 40 there is a shift -

EVIL, EVIL EMPIRE UPDATE

China orders termination for mum-to-be

Tim Johnson

November 16, 2008 12:00am

A STORM of international protest is building over a Chinese ruling that a Muslim Uighur woman who is six months pregnant must have an abortion or lose her home.

Chinese authorities have ordered Arzigul Tursun, who is 26 weeks pregnant, to abort her unborn child because she has two other children.

She is under watch at the Municipal Watergate Hospital in Yining in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, which is populated heavily with Uighurs, a Turkic-speaking Muslim minority. Supporters are concerned a forced abortion at such a late stage could threaten Arzigul's health.

According to the Washington-based Uyghur Human Rights Project, Arzigul and her husband, Nurmemet, fled their village when she became pregnant, but returned after officials warned their house and property would be seized if Arzigul did not have an abortion.

"We considered our two girls," said Nurmemet. "If the house and properties were taken away, how would they live? So my wife came back and went to the hospital."

US Representative Christopher Smith, a New Jersey Republican, wrote to China's ambassador to Washington, Zhou Wenzhong, last week to demand the forced abortion not be carried out.

Militant Uighurs seeking independence from China have carried out an intensified terror campaign and social tensions in the region are high.

Because of its population of 1.3 billion, China maintains a one-child-per-family rule on majority Han Chinese.

Minority urban couples may have two children, while rural farmers may have three.

Arzigul holds a rural household registration but her husband is registered in an urban area.

Local officials eventually demanded that she terminate her pregnancy.

China says its population would have risen far more if 400 million abortions had not been performed in the past three decades.

HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY!!

This is in honor of my Uncle Tom, who was shot down over Yugoslavia during WW2.

He was a POW for months but finally returned home and served in several symphonies over the rest of his lifetime as a first violin player.

I tried to buy him a Veteran's Day card at Target
and Borders Books this year but sadly, neither had ordered any.

How dare we forget our nation's heros?

THANK YOU Applebees and Golden Corral

Obama: pro-abortion president who will harm America's blacks
by Mark Tardiff

The joy over the first black head of state must not overshadow the fact that Obama supports extremely permissive abortion laws, and is against the rights of the unborn. Abortion is diminishing black American communities. The design of Planned Parenthood has always been that of using black leaders to promote the self-destruction of their own people. Mark Tardiff, an American, is a member of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, and was a missionary in Japan.

MOTHER TERESA ON ABORTION

"America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts -- a child -- as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. (a punishment?) It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters. And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign." (Mother Theresa -- "Notable and Quotable," Wall Street Journal, 2/25/94, p. A14)

"But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love, and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even his life to love us. So the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love - that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts. By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion. "

"Please don't kill the child. I want the child. Please give me the child. I am willing to accept any child who would be aborted, and to give that child to a married couple who will love the child, and be loved by the child. From our children's home in Calcutta alone, we have saved over 3,000 children from abortions. These children have brought such love and joy to their adopting parents, and have grown up so full of love and joy!" February 1997 - National Prayer Breakfast in Washington attended by the President and the First Lady.

"What is taking place in America," she said, "is a war against the child. And if we accept that the mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another."

"Any country that accepts abortion, is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what it wants."

"It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."

Abortion ban returns to ballot in South Dakota

Oct 18, 2:32 PM (ET)

By CARSON WALKER

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Two years after South Dakotans rejected a nearly total ban on abortion, voters on Nov. 4 will decide another sweeping but less restrictive ballot measure that would probably send a legal challenge of Roe v. Wade to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The initiative would outlaw abortions but includes exceptions for rape, incest and pregnancies that threaten the life or health of the woman. Some voters said they wanted those exceptions when they rejected the tougher 2006 measure 56 percent to 44 percent.

Opponents say the new measure would jeopardize the patient-doctor relationship because physicians could be criminally charged for exceeding its bounds. They also argue that its exceptions are too narrowly defined and that it would force some women to carry an unhealthy fetus.

Leslee Unruh, the executive director of VoteYesForLife.com and the measure's main proponent, said it's legally sound.

Thousands turn out for Race for the Cure

By By Julie Hutchinson, Special to the Rocky

Sunday, October 5, 2008

A river of pink flooded downtown Denver this morning as more than 60,000 people ran and walked in the 16th annual Komen Race for the Cure to support people affected by breast cancer.

Among the participants was North High School senior Salvador Sonola, one of 25 North ROTC students to turn out for the race. "It is a good thing to do this," he said. "People want to help."

Jessica King, 31, an Aurora librarian diagnosed with multiple sclerosis nine years ago, rode in a scooter. She took part in support of her mother in law, a breast cancer survivor.

Since the first race in Dallas in 1982, the Komen Race for the Cure has grown to 100 races nationwide, with more than 1.4 million participants expected.

Nearly 62,000 people participated in the 2007 Denver Race, one of the largest footraces in Colorado history. Funds raised go to cancer research and community outreach.

Race officials said 1,400 volunteers helped stage today's event.

"Duty to Die" DICK LAMM'S LEGACY!!

Letter noting assisted suicide raises questions

Barbara Wagner

By Susan Harding and KATU Web Staff

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Barbara Wagner has one wish - for more time.

"I'm not ready, I'm not ready to die," the Springfield woman said. "I've got things I'd still like to do."

Her doctor offered hope in the new chemotherapy drug Tarceva, but the Oregon Health Plan sent her a letter telling her the cancer treatment was not approved.

Instead, the letter said, the plan would pay for comfort care, including "physician aid in dying," better known as assisted suicide.

"I told them, I said, 'Who do you guys think you are?' You know, to say that you'll pay for my dying, but you won't pay to help me possibly live longer?' " Wagner said.

An unfortunate interpretation?

Dr. Som Saha, chairman of the commission that sets policy for the Oregon Health Plan, said Wagner is making an "unfortunate interpretation" of the letter and that no one is telling her the health plan will only pay for her to die.

But one critic of assisted suicide calls the message disturbing nonetheless.

"People deserve relief of their suffering, not giving them an overdose," said Dr. William Toffler.

He said the state has a financial incentive to offer death instead of life: Chemotherapy drugs such as Tarceva cost $4,000 a month while drugs for assisted suicide cost less than $100.

Saha said state health officials do not consider whether it is cheaper for someone in the health plan to die than live. But he admitted they must consider the state's limited dollars when dealing with a case such as Wagner's.

"If we invest thousands and thousands of dollars in one person's days to weeks, we are taking away those dollars from someone," Saha said.

But the medical director at the cancer center where Wagner gets her care said some people may have incredible responses to treatment.

Health plan hasn't evolved?

The Oregon Health Plan simply hasn't kept up with dramatic changes in chemotherapy, said Dr. David Fryefield of the Willamette Valley Cancer Center.

Even for those with advanced cancer, new chemotherapy drugs can extend life.

Yet the Oregon Health Plan only offers coverage for chemo that cures cancer - not if it can prolong a patient's life.

"We are looking at today's ... 2008 treatment, but we're using 1993 standards," Fryefield said. "When the Oregon Health Plan was created, it was 15 years ago, and there were not all the chemotherapy drugs that there are today."

Patients like Wagner can appeal a decision if they are denied coverage. Wagner appealed twice but lost both times.

However, her doctors contacted the pharmaceutical company, Genentech, which agreed to give her the medication without charging her. But doctors told us, that is unusual for a company to give away such an expensive medication.
