Barack Obama Advisor Warren Buffet Gives Millions to Pro-Abortion Groups

by Steven Ertelt

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- During the third and final presidential debate last week, Barack Obama mentioned investment guru Warren Buffet as a financial advisor. Obama called Buffet a "my friend and supporter," but failed to mention Buffet has given millions of dollars to pro-abortion groups.

Buffett is the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and, due to public pressure from pro-life advocates, Berkshire Hathaway announced in June 2003 that it would end all corporate charitable donations.

Prior to that, through his Buffett Foundation, Buffett supported the most radical aspects of the population control movement such as providing $2 million to fund clinical trials of Mifepristone (RU-486) -- the dangerous abortion drug that has killed more than a dozen women worldwide.

Buffett also provided $2 million to Family Health International for the distribution of quinacrine hydrochloride, a chemical that sterilizes a woman by burning her fallopian tubes.

Quinacrine is illegal in the U.S., but is used, often coercively, in Vietnam, India, and other nations.

In the late 1990s, Buffett committed to a $20 million grant to International Projects Assistance Services (IPAS), which manufactures and distributes manual vacuum aspirators, used for performing abortions in impoverished countries.

Buffet had also made donations to Planned Parenthood in the name of Pampered Chef, a cooking sales program with a high participation from Christian women. After Berkshire Hathaway purchased Pampered Chef, it donated $11 million to pro-abortion organizations in 2002.

The only thing allowing evil to flourish, is good people doing nothing!!

NO CHILD KILLING WITH TRANQUILITY!!

Minister Kenney: "Don't deport Roohi - stop honorcide!"

She can stay, for now
Faces possible honour killing if deported to Pakistan

By TOM GODFREY, SUN MEDIA
Last Updated: 28th April 2009, 3:01am

An ecstatic Roohi Tabassum wept yesterday after learning a federal court judge stopped her removal from Canada just hours before she was to be deported to face her ex-husband and possible death by honour killing in Pakistan.

"I feel alive that I can now carry on with my new life," Tabassum said yesterday. "This is one of the best days of my life."

Tabassum, 44, was to be driven to the U.S. border today at Niagara Falls and turned over to U.S. immigration officials. She entered Canada from the U.S. in 2001 and filed a failed refugee claim. She faced deportation from the U.S. to Pakistan.

"I am crying because I am so happy," she said. "No one can imagine how great I feel not to be facing death for once."

Tabassum claimed she couldn't return to Pakistan because her ex-husband, Faisal Javed, threatened to kill her.

STYLES MEN'S HAIR

He was angered because she works in a salon where she styles men's hair, she said, and also suspected she had a boyfriend, which she denies.

Madame Justice Anne Mactavish said Tabassum would likely be deported back to Pakistan from the U.S., where she has no status.

"The applicant has established that she will suffer irreparable harm" if she is removed from Canada," Mactavish ruled.

She allowed Tabassum to remain in Canada until a pre-removal appeal can take place, which can take about nine months.

Her lawyer Max Berger told court that 1,200 to 1,500 women were killed in 2007 from honour killings in Pakistan, according to U.S. Department of State statistics.

"Honour killings continue to be a problem with women in Pakistan," he said. "Cases go unreported because women are reluctant to press charges because of a stigma involved."

The case has caught the attention of hundreds of Toronto Sun readers and those who saw her video on torontosun.com.

Meanwhile, in Parliament yesterday NDP MP Irene Mathyssen demanded that Immigration Minister Jason Kenney halt the deportation.

"She is begging for her life," Mathyssen told the House of Commons. "Will the minister ensure that Roohi is not deported?"

Kenney said he "would be happy to review the case as it relates to an apparent application on humanitarian and compassionate grounds."

Judge's mercy prevents honor killing, for now

But woman who fears husband's wrath may yet be sent to her death

Roohi Tabassum

This afternoon, a judge placed a temporary stay on deporting a Pakistani woman who feared her husband would kill her if she were reunited with him.

Roohi Tabassum has been a refugee living for years in Mississauga, Ontario, making a living as a hairdresser, while filing for permanent refugee residency on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

Her husband, Faisal Javed, however, has been living in Dubai and has been sending her written death threats, saying she has dishonored him by touching the hair of both men and women at the salon where she works.

"If I go back I will be killed, and because of me, some of my relatives will be in trouble too," Tabassum told the Toronto Star. "I don't want to go to Pakistan."

Tabassum showed the Star letters, purportedly from her husband, threatening her with an "honor killing" if she were deported.

One, from 2006, states, "Nobody here is in your favor. I am also very combative to you. If you are here, I could not leave you alive."

Another from 2007 states, "I will finish you myself."

A video of Tabassum's story, produced by the Toronto Sun, can be seen below:

Storm over embryo 'bank' which could be used as a body repair kit

By Beezy Marsh and Jo Macfarlane
Last updated at 11:04 PM on 25th April 2009

Couples could be allowed to store embryos in order to use them to create new body parts or cure diseases.

Government legal and ethical experts are to discuss whether families can ‘bank’ embryos not just for procreation but also for use by doctors to create personalised treatments for parents and their children.

Now, embryos – the first stage of life after an egg has been successfully fertilised – can be stored for up to five years but only for procreation.

But a huge ethical debate is set to erupt as the Government’s fertility watchdog, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), moves closer to endorsing new developments in medical science.

It will debate whether embryos could be stored to harvest important stem cells that have the ability to turn into any tissue type in the body.

'Spare parts': Government legal and ethical experts are to discuss whether families can 'bank' embryos for the creation of personalised treatments for parents and their children
Research on using the cells is still in its infancy, but it is thought that within ten years it could lead to cures for degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and some forms of cancer.

The embryos could also be used to grow new organs and bodily ‘spare parts’.

Scientists have already successfully transplanted a windpipe grown from a patient’s own adult stem cells.

However, storing embryonic cells is controversial as they allow the creation of embryos for a purpose other than new life. It means couples could have IVF simply to create a body-repair kit.

A US company is already offering this service, which it has described as an ‘investment’ for the future.

The HFEA will discuss the issue in July – and if it rules in favour of the proposals, they will automatically become policy.

Paul Tully, general secretary of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, said: ‘These proposals widen the scope for abuse of embryos. Commercial companies will inevitably seek to exploit people’s fears about degenerative diseases.

'This is about the commercialisation of human embryos, which is dehumanising.’

The Dominican Republic
Lawmakers working on a new constitution for the Dominican Republic have voted overwhelmingly to protect life, specifying in the document that "the right to life is inviolable from conception until death."

The vote yesterday was 167-32 in the national legislature, which was responding to pressure from international pro-abortion groups seeking to expand their business operations into the Caribbean island nation.

"A true respect for human life is protecting it from the beginning, the Dominican Republic is ahead of America in building a society where all human life is truly respected," said Ignacio Reyes, director of Live Action San Jose.

His group was among several that sent representatives to the nation over the past month to explain the full impact of abortion.

Defeat HHS nominee Abortion Pal, Sebelius

SEBELIUS CONFIRMATION COULD BE TODAY; OPPOSITION GROWING; CALL NOW

Dear friends,

Sebelius may be confirmed as early as today! Call your senators NOW!

The Senate Finance Committee earlier today narrowly voted to confirm Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to Secretary of Health and Human Services by a vote of 11-8. The vote reflects the growing opposition to Sebelius in light of new revelations about her deep financial ties to the abortion industry and notorious abortionist George Tiller in particular.

There is growing momentum against this nomination among Senate members and we need YOU to light up the Senate switchboards. We can stop this by acting NOW!

Please call your senators at 202-224-312.

Urge them to oppose this radical nomination. Kathleen Sebelius is a threat to our nation’s healthcare.

Gov. Sebelius lied to the Senate Finance Committee when she testified she received $12,450 over an eight-year period from infamous late-term abortionist, George Tiller.

In reality, Gov. Sebelius received over $35,000 in personal and PAC contributions from Tiller and another $200,000 he donated to ProKanDo, a political action committee dedicated to defeating Sebelius’ pro-life gubernatorial opponent.

Kathleen Sebelius is radically wedded to the pro-abortion industry. She must be stopped and we need YOU TO STOP HER! CALL NOW!

Please contact Sebelius' home state senators - Sen. Brownback's and Sen. Roberts' offices. Ask them to stand up against this nomination and stop Sebelius by invoking senatorial courtesy!

Eternal Father, strong to save
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave
Who bidst the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep
O, hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea
O, Trinity of love and power
Our brethern shield in danger's hour
From rock and tempest, fire and FOE
Protect them whereso'er they go
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad praise from air, from land and sea

Don't corrupt American Medicine

Freedom of Conscience is Fundamental to American
Values

As Concerned Women for America reminds us:

No one should be forced to participate in an immoral act.

Conscientious objectors are exempt from combat. Physicians opposed to the death penalty are not forced to administer lethal injections.

Doctors should not be forced to do procedures they believe are immoral.

Today a few of us tried to raise awareness of the potential recision of the current conscience clause for Christian medical professionals. We went to St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver.

Sadly, we were asked to leave. Chased off the property. I guess our signs saying "Protect conscience rights" were too strong for the hospital staff to take.

We went to the sidewalk out front and a security guard came again to tell us that we had to go across the street with our message. Fortunately, we knew we were on city sidewalks and had every right to exercise our
1st Amendment rights.

Do you fear for the country we are leaving our children and grandchildren?

Visit Freedom to Care and act!

Thank you Jesus

Refugee fears death in Pakistan

AARON HARRIS/TORONTO STAR

Roohi Tabassum, 44, shown in her lawyer's office April 6, 2009, says she will be killed by her husband if she is deported to Pakistan, booked for this month.

Hairdresser says husband overseas has threatened to 'finish' her if she's deported to her native land
April 07, 2009

KENYON WALLACE
STAFF REPORTER

Roohi Tabassum had nothing when she arrived in Canada eight years ago as a refugee from Pakistan.

But since then, Tabassum, 44, has built a life in this country. She cuts hair at a salon. She bought a house in Mississauga. She calls Canada her home.

But at the end of the month, the life Tabassum struggled to build for so long is in danger of ending. An unsuccessful refugee claimant, she faces a deportation order to Pakistan that could, she says, be a death sentence.

Tabassum says her husband, Faisal Javed, currently living in Dubai, has sent her written threats saying she has dishonoured him by working at a salon where she touches the hair of men and women.

Tabassum also says her husband suspects she has a boyfriend after a friend's husband answered her phone one night when her husband called from Dubai.

"If I go back I will be killed and because of me, some of my relatives will be in trouble too," Tabassum said through tears in an interview.

Till we all meet again . . .

Four years ago this morning, Terri Schindler Schiavo finally succumbed to the state ordered murderous starvation and dehydration regime in Florida, after 13 days.

My friends and I had been furiously working with a few sympathetic Florida legislators to pass a sip of water bill, believing that if we could get Terri a sip of water, some ice chips . . . perhaps she'd make it.

Knowing full well that any animal owner who perpetrated the same torment on a pet or livestock would be put in jail, we worked to point out the madness we were witnessing and the world was watching.

Gabriel Keys and his sister Josie, homeschoolers who bucked the system - attempting to bring Terri a drink of water - were arrested.

These two young men from a far away state brought flowers in a vase designed to be able to assuage Terri's horrific thirst, should they be able to get past the police and dogs guarding the Hospice Woodside entrance.

During my numerous flights to Florida to join the hundreds, if not thousands, fighting for Terri's life, I pondered the day we'd meet. I considered her a friend, though we'd never met. That day has been postponed, but I pray that she and my precious Tuesday have recently become friends. I pray the words of scripture in Romans 8:28 have and will continue to bring comfort to the Schindler family as they remember and honor their beloved Terri on this poignant day.

8 Weeks

8 Weeks

Of asking why,

Lord, did Tuesday have to die?

8 weeks of tears oft shed,

each a memory of things she said

or did - we loved

to see or hear.

8 weeks of broken hearts,

trying to mend - yet still afar

it seems so odd, this loss we grieve.

It makes no sense but we believe.

You love her Lord, even more than we

and so we beg, you’ll help us see

you weaving our pain for something good.

To bring some meaning, some things understood.

For this we pray, that with each day

You’ll help us see and know your love,

for Tuesday’s life

Knows no bounds and will suffice . . .

Until we see her once again

all face to face in your embrace

Abortion Industry Needs "Pride" Movement: Brown University Bioethicist and Author
By Hilary White

March 26, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The abortion industry needs a "pride" movement, similar to that of the immensely successful homosexualist movement, a prominent US bioethicist says. Jacob M. Appel, an author, professor at Brown University and graduate of Harvard Law, wrote on the website "Opposing Views," that "the moment is ripe - more than ripe - for an Abortion Pride Movement."

Appel says that "one is bombarded" in the "conservative" press with stories of women who overcome obstacles to bring to term "fetuses" with severe disabilities. "The implication," he wrote, "is that while bearing a child when one is ready is a blessing, bearing a child when one is not prepared garners one extra moral credit in the cosmos." This praise of women carrying difficult pregnancies to term, he submits, constitutes an "anti-abortion" pride movement.

But for those Americans who believe "that life begins after conception," such stories are "not at all a cause for pride." "It more is akin to deciding that the world is flat and then boasting of not falling off the edge."

He complains that women who have abortions are "rarely encouraged to take pride in their decisions." Calling abortion a "courageous and noble moral choice," Appel wrote, "Women who step up to the ethical plate and have the strength to say, 'This is the wrong time,' or 'This is the wrong fetus,' should hold their heads high in the streets."

While he admitted that "terminating a pregnancy" can be a "difficult choice," "our society should be proud of them too."

"Our message should not be merely toleration or resigned acquiescence, but genuine joy that someone has made a decision for their own and for the collective good."

Aren't Jacob's mother and employer "proud" that his life wasn't sacrificed for the "collective good"?
