Colorado View Magazine profiles Personhood proponent v opponent


Voters this fall will once again be asked to decide a state constitutional amendment that seeks to define a person to give legal rights to an unborn child. In March, Colorado Amendment 62, called the Personhood Amendment, was placed on the ballot after the Secretary of State certified nearly 100,000 signatures in support. Backers say the ultimate goal is to overturn Roe v. Wade.

A similar measure was defeated in 2008, 73 to 27 percent. Unswayed, proponents are not only back but have tweaked the language to make the language broader. A person is no longer defined from moment of fertilization. Now a person is given rights at the beginning of biological development. Backers say this change offers protection for the unborn during such things as in vitro fertilization. It also could potentially prohibit birth control methods that prevent implantation in the uterus.

Working tirelessly in support and in opposition of this controversial amendment are two accomplished, articulate women. Both are veterans in the political arena; both are passionate and unwavering in their beliefs. And both have devoted decades trying to defeat what the other stands for.

The first toe-dip into politics for Leslie Hanks came in 1986 when she was asked to run for PTA president at her kids’ school in the Bennet 29 School District. She was a stay-at-home mom who was going to college to earn a degree in English. She agreed to run not knowing of the fight that soon would change the course of her life.

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, she says she was completely apolitical. Her father was a jazz musician, her mother a traditional housewife who sometimes felt restless in the domestic world. “My parents were both highly opinionated so I come by it naturally,” jokes the 59-year-old mother of two and grandmother of eight. She has been married to the same man 39 years. She is at once cheerful and relaxed, without a hint of the contentiousness that often swirls around her chosen causes.

I have heard many people cry foul whenever any pro-lifer uses the Jewish Holocaust or slavery in America as a comparison to abortion. Many times at my talks someone will scold me during question-and-answer time, claiming to be offended that I would use such a comparison.

The problem they have is not really the fact that a comparison is being made to one of these horrific tragedies; after all, we build museums, memorials and reminders of what happened to make sure something like the Jewish Holocaust will never happen again. The problem really is that we have elevated what they consider to be a blob of tissue to personhood status.

My regular readers know me well enough to comprehend my seriousness about the curse that the Supreme Court loaded on the back of America in 1973, with its Roe v Wade decision legalizing abortion. Little did I know – historically challenged little me – that America's legalized abortion actually began in Colorado in 1967. Yup, the practice of murdering your own children with impunity began not 37 years ago, but 43.

That is half the length of time America took to finally end slavery.

Yup, Hollywood's Little Getaway Spot, with the ski trails of Aspen and the seven figure vacation homes, revolutionized America's very soul.Colorado did more to destroy America's "inalienable right to life" than even Dr. Evil and his Mini-Me have accomplished so far.

By that I mean, it was the elite, wealthy and influential of Colorado that actually began to beg for the arrival of a wannabe-Mao Zedong and his "Cultural Revolution" … or rather the "fundamental transformation of the United States of America."

Predictably, Mr. Moriarty has been slammed by the Democratic Underground for his admiration of America's Declaration of Independence. Of course, there's also the little problem of the Law and Order episode, Dignity with its echos of Personhood for pre-born babies in the womb.

As American RTL noted, "Cutter virtually quoted the co-sponsor of Colorado's 2010 Personhood Amendment, Gualberto Garcia Jones, who launched the statewide ballot initiative holding his 10-day-old son at a press conference and saying, "Two weeks ago, my son had less rights than a dog or a cat." Speaking to District Attorney Jack McCoy, Cutter says, "My God, cats and dogs have more rights than the unborn."

"I saw a photograph of a bird's nest, which was an advertisement for what I thought was a photographic exhibition at a small gallery in Sydney. When I arrived, it was a showing of real birds' nests. I was deeply moved by these little nests, their incredible beauty and fragility, and the mothering instinct at work -- the ingenuity and energy channeled into creating a safe place to conceal the young. Everything about them was just so nurturing. And I began to think about these miracles of nature that are concealed in a repeating pattern of secrete, store, burst forth in abundance -- seeds, bulbs, cocoons and the miracle of pregnancy.

When I saw the nests, everything began to flow again; everything came back. I felt inspired to start photographing again. I came out of the exhibit and phoned my husband, Kel, and said, "I need to do another book. I just saw these amazing nests." The whole "Beginnings" project started from there.

The creative intensity of the project pushed me into deeper and deeper territory, giving me something far richer than I could ever have anticipated. I sometimes had to change course within my vision. I think you have to be able to say, "Wait a minute, this is closer to what I wanted to say," and not be afraid to do that. The evolution of the project attracted me as an artist and was fulfilling in the sense that I became aware of being inspired to explore my vision in new forms."

Great Great Granddaughter of Slaves Speaks out for Personhood


The Amendment 62 campaign in Colorado, seeking to legally protect every baby in the womb from the beginning of biological development, has been blessed by the presence of Lori Hoye and her husband Walter Hoye during the recent months of our campaign.

They have so very generously shared the personhood vision with churches all over Colorado from the perspective of the founders of the California Civil Rights Foundation and Issues4Life.

Lori's thoughts about the need to protect each life made in God's image, are particularly poignant as her family history
explains.

As the great great granddaughter of former slaves, I am ETERNALLY grateful that Abraham Lincoln DID risk the Union, fought the Civil War, and Abolished Slavery.

It is very easy to talk about practicality, pragmatism and polls when you are not the one wearing chains and being beaten on a daily basis. It’s easy to be patient when you are free. It’s another thing entirely when you’re the slave. The nearly 240
years that passed until the Thirteenth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution officially ended slavery in 1865 were an eternity for the slave. The past 37 years are an eternity for the preborn child.

In the black community every 72 seconds a preborn baby is being brutally murdered in the womb of his or her mother. The baby wants to live and expects those who have the power to save him or her to do it RIGHT NOW. Abortion has taken more lives in the African-American community in 37 years (over 14 million) than slavery took from Africa in more than 400 years (12 to 13 million African forbearers ripped from their homes and forcibly transported to the Americas in a massive slave trade
dating from the 1400s).

State sued for “bias, lies” in describing Amendment 62

Organizers of Amendment 62, the personhood initiative, have filed a lawsuit against the state alleging “lies” about the measure printed in the Blue Book voting manual scheduled to be sent to voters. Sponsors of the amendment say this year's analysis of the proposal does not give voters a fair and balanced analysis of the initiative.

Dennis Hoshiko, a local onion farmer and one of the key figures behind the initiative, told the Gazette the state completely disregarded the detailed medical opinions provided by the group and instead relied totally on opinions from the opposition when printing the voter guide. Hoshiko said “the state’s allegation that the term ‘beginning of biological development’ has no basis in science is totally false. We provided them with multiple documents showing the term is well established in science.”

Gualberto Garcia-Jones, a co-sponsor of the amendment said "First, we were disallowed from including the text of the amendment in the 'Arguments For' section. The 'Arguments For' section is weak and does not include most of the arguments for Amendment 62. The Blue Book authors didn't stop there, however, and published several falsehoods about Amendment 62. Women could never be denied health care for miscarriages with the passage of Amendment 62, yet that is one of the lies our opposition is using as a scare tactic – and one of the lies propagated by the Colorado Blue Book.”

A judge in Indiana has approved a request to depose a key school administrator by lawyers representing the "Notre Dame 88," pro-life activists who were arrested on orders from the Catholic university while they protested the school's speaking invitation to the devoutly pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

The move is key to the Notre Dame 88's defense, because when the famed university cracked down on the Obama critics, Notre Dame President John Jenkins issued a statement that all protesters were treated equally on campus.

However, William Kirk, former Notre Dame associate vice president for residential life who recently was dismissed, may have first-hand knowledge that the university previously allowed "gay" rights and anti-ROTC protesters to operate on campus without a permit and without any charges being filed, according to the Thomas More Society, which is working on the pro-life activists' defense.

The organization reports that Kirk had served the university for many years but "was abruptly let go after it became public that, while Notre Dame had arrested and vigorously prosecuted pro-life demonstrators, in prior years the university filed no charges against gay rights and anti-ROTC activists who also had protested on campus without permission."

The organizers behind a Colorado pro-life initiative scheduled for the November election today filed a lawsuit against the state over "lies" about the measure in the official voter manual.

The manual, or Blue Book, is prepared before each election by the Colorado Legislative Council and is intended, according to the state agency's website, "to provide voters with the text, title, and a fair and impartial analysis."

However, sponsors behind the state's Amendment 62, the only "personhood proposal" on any election ballot in the nation this year, say it is anything but fair and impartial.

Perpetuating racial genocide?


At last week's No on 62 pep rally for death, the same usual suspects gathered on the west steps of the Colorado State Capitol to
bemoan how "dangerous" and "deceptive" personhood for "fertilized eggs" will be.

New on the scene, however, was a woman introduced as the Reverend Dawn Riley Duval. It would seem that she has been recruited to rebut the claims of chilling parallels between slavery and abortion that Amendment 62 spokesman, Pastor Walter Hoye, has been making all over Colorful Colorado. As founder of the California Civil Rights Foundation, Hoye has a deep abiding faith and vested interest in educating his people about the radical, racist and eugenic history of Planned Parenthood.



So it was especially jarring to hear Ms Duval begin her rant with, "This is the day that the Lord has made." One doesn't
anticipate hearing the name of Almighty God invoked at a pep rally for death.

Duval continued, "This deeply personal and painful moral decision is best left to a woman," said Rev. Dawn Riley Duval of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, "And her doctor and God!" she shouted to loud applause.

We must assume that this newest Planned Parenthood spokeswoman has not heard the statements of PP's founder, Margaret
Sanger
.

Of particular interest to the black community should be this disturbing message, ""We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population," she said, "if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."



Colorado Right to Life has a long history of sharing this kind of insidious racial profiling by the abortion industry. We brought
Reverend Clenard Childress to address the Ministerial Alliance in 2006 and while his message largely fell on deaf ears, he planted seeds and so Pastor Hoye has been warmly received by several prominent Black churches in Denver.

Pastor Hoye will be speaking at a prayer rally at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Aurora on September 17, 2010 sharing his message of Persons not Property and Why we Can't Wait to legally protect everyone made in God's image.

We will be delivering the DVD Maafa 21 to Ms Duval's pastor, with the prayer that the message of how abortion is decimating the black race and carrying on the legacy of death and destruction of the slave master mentality, will be shared.

Should the church be receptive to learning why personhood is the key to equality of justice for all ~ born and unborn,
we'd welcome Dawn's fiery passion to protect her people from those who have targeted them for extermination.

Our soulless "leaders" have historical amnesia


Senator,

I'm not surprised that you voted with the pro-abortion Democrats at the blue book hearing for Amendment 62 yesterday, but I'm sad for you that you continue to stand against the God given, inalienable right to life of every member of the human family, from the beginning of his or her biological development.

History will not judge you well, Senator.

Those who compromised with slave holders to continue the lie that black Americans were property are looked upon with disdain today.

Martin Luther King understood and expressed so eloquently why slavery was so evil, "In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men - yes, black men as well as white men - would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked 'insufficient funds.'"

For over 40 years, the innocent, helpless baby in the womb has been considered property ~ and America has defaulted in her responsibility once again.

As Thomas Jefferson said, "The care of human life and happiness and not their destruction is the chief and only legitimate object of good government."

Prior to selecting a "pro-choice" running mate, and just hours after winning at the state assembly, Dan Maes told a pro-abortion media outlet:

“People are overestimating the personhood amendment. It simply defines life as beginning at conception. That’s it. Who knows what the intent of it is? They are simply making a statement. That is all I see it as. Do they have another agenda? I don’t know... Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, and people tend to forget that. I would not try to undo that.” -Dan Maes

In a private meeting shortly after making the above statement, Maes' said that he mispoke and "took it back." We at CRTL should have had more wisdom. We know that "pro-life" politicians typically tell us whatever they think is necessary to get our support. With Maes, we lowered our guard, hoping that a grassroots, tea-party-endorsed, self-proclaimed pro-personhood Republican candidate could be trusted. We see now that we were gullible. We apologize. With the fallen human nature, grassroots and tea-party candidates learn quickly, and can obviously be as deceptive to their base as any establishment politician. Dan Maes selecting a "pro-choice" Lt. Governor shows the apparent truth in his claim that he would not try to "undo" the bloodshed unleashed by Roe. Politicians who cared more about themselves then abolishing slavery held similarly hypocritcal positions. Yet Jesus said, Let your yes be yes, and your no be no. Even if Maes acknowledged the travesty of his LG selection, and dumped Williams, it is hard to see how he could be trusted. But still, for his own conscience' sake, he should do the right thing.

How emphatic does CRTL have to be before our "pro-life" politicians get the point? The only justifiable abortion policy is zero tolerance for child killing.

Does America have any remaining Statesmen?


On this the eve of our nation's coming celebration of Independence Day weekend, can we take a moment to reflect and pray for our current crop of "leaders" ?

As we reflect about the statesmen who put their lives on the line for the good of their posterity in writing and signing the Declaration of Independence, Whatreallyhappened.com describes the painful legacy of what standing for truth, liberty and justice for all can really mean.

Today we have hearings on the most recent Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan, who by all appearances, will further destroy our liberties but who also has scandalously aided and abetted infanticide, according to Jill Stanek's expose of Kagan's PBA promotion scheme.

And so we have congressional hearings with great scandal hanging overhead like the oil oozing over the Gulf of Mexico ~
and nary a statesman willing to demand accountability and stand up to a woman nominee!

Please pray that as we ponder the meaning of all the blood, sweat and tears shed so that America could be what Reagan
reminded us in his famous 1974 Shining City Upon A Hill speech, "our nation is chosen by God and commissioned by history to be a model to the world"

Pray that someone in our Congress will rise to the occasion and once again lead us to be an America we can be proud of ~ one no longer aiding and abetting the shedding of innocent blood!
