ANDREA CLARK'S SISTER'S UPDATE ON MS VO
I was in Austin this weekend and asked Jerri Ward (the lawyer who represented my sister, Andrea Clark, and who is also representing Mrs. Vo) if I could go see Mrs. Vo. She thought it was a good idea and she met me up there Sunday morning. We were escorted to Mrs. Vo's room by her husband, Mr. Tran.
Before I was allowed in the room, a nurse stopped us at the door and demanded to know who I was. I told her I was a friend of the family. She wanted to know what "kind" of friend I was. I told her I was an "important"
friend of the family. She said if I was media she couldn't let me in. This didn't seem right to me, but I didn't argue the point since I wasn't media. I assured her I was not media. We washed and gowned and went in to see Mrs. Vo. The nurse hovered in the room and about the door for most of the visit.
We weren't there five minutes and another hospital official along with a security guard came into the room and handed me a business card. She told me I'd have to call the administrator on the card and identify myself. Is it just
me or is this sounding Gestapo to you too? I asked her if she was telling me I couldn't visit the patient if unless I called this person. She started crabwalking a bit..."I'm just saying you are to call..." I demanded to know if she was telling me I couldn't visit the patient. Then the security guard interrupted and said he thought there was some kind of misunderstanding and he drew the woman back out into the hall to talk in low tones--after a few minutes they disappeared down the hall.
By this time I was fairly livid. I wanted to visit with Mrs. Vo and they kept interrupting. After another five minutes, here comes ANOTHER hospital official to verify that I was not
media. I don't know what's wrong with those people. Are they stupid or something? Are they calling me a liar? How many times do they have to be told I am not media? And even if I were, it's none of their business if the family wants me there! I mean, is Mrs. Vo a patient or a prisoner?
Mr. Tran loves his wife so much. The entire time we were there he rubbed her skin with oil, did range of motion exercises on her, cleaned her mouth, suctioned her mouth and vent. Oh...the nurse was mad about that...she was so rude.
Mrs. Vo is much healthier than Andrea. She's nice and fat and her skin is beautiful--not all broken down like Andrea's. She watches you with her eyes--despite the nurse telling us that "she can't track." Nonsense. She
probably is uncooperative with the hospital because she knows they don't care about her. She was "tracking" her husband, me, and Jerri just fine. The nurse got mad when Mr. Tran swabbed out his wife's mouth. The nurse
said, "I just did that." He ignored her and continued to care for his wife, so the nurse started complaining to us about it. Jerri asked the nurse if it would hurt if he cleaned out his wife's mouth. She hesitated, then she said, "Well, she doesn't like it." Sure enough, Mrs. Vo was making an ugly
face as her husband swabbed her mouth. Well, apparently, the patient has preferences about having her mouth cleaned. To me, this says she is responding to her environment. And even the nurse admitted that.
No one can convince me that Mr. Tran isn't experiencing a feeling of love as he cares for his wife or that Mrs. Vo isn't experiencing the feeling of being loved as he takes care of her. Those are the most exquisite of all human experiences--if Mrs. Vo still has access to the best of all human experiences, how can it be anything other than pure murder for them to remove her life support?
This is all becoming very surreal to me...how is it that hospitals seem to feel a sense of entitlement when it comes to killing off patients? How is it that they have so much resentment towards those who believe in a patient's right to life? Are they so comfortable with the God-like power attributed to them by the law and families that they become apoplectic at the very notion that someone might question their authority?
That kind of power is very dangerous to anyone who could possibly become a patient. Texas isn't the only state with medical futility laws. We all need to be fighting this battle.

Lost in all the commentary on last week's FDA approval of the abortion pill RU-486 is an inconvenient and extraordinarily chilling detail about the company that invented the drug, Rousell-Uclaf.
Rousell, based in France, developed RU-486 in the 1980s, and after extensive testing the French government approved it for use in 1988. But Rousell's West German parent company, Hoechst AG, did not.
Hoechst had two problems with the idea of making easy abortions available to a mass market. Not only was abortion illegal in largely Catholic pre-unification West Germany, but RU-486 was sure to conjure up memories of the darkest chapter in German history - the Holocaust.
The chiefs at Hoechst AG, now one of the largest chemical companies in the world with over 145,000 employees, did not want their overseas customers to be reminded - or perhaps learn for the first time - about Hoescht's direct link to the National Socialist (Nazi) death camps of World War II.
Hoechst itself was born of the Nuremberg War Tribunal, which disbanded its precursor, the Nazi chemical giant IG Farben. The tribunal convicted twelve Farben executives of war atrocities, including "crimes against humanity, murder, extermination and enslavement."
Hoechst, Bayer and BASF became Farben's direct postwar corporate descendants.
Farbenworks factories at Hoechst, Degesch and Leverkusen worked overtime producing toxic gases for the Third Reich, including the deadly agent Zyklon B - the very poison that was used to exterminate millions in Hitler's gas chambers.
The Buna Rubber facility at Auschwitz was also part of Farbenworks' Nazi operations, which even included a special corporate concentration camp at the site known as Monowitz. But Monowitz was just one of several slave labor camps operated by Hoechst's corporate ancestor throughout the Nazi empire before Hitler's defeat in 1945.
No wonder today's pro-abortion journalists don't want to remind their readers about the connection between America's new abortion pill and the deadly history of the company that invented it.

Has the Abortion Pill been Pushed on America?

CBN.com – WASHINGTON – Did the Clinton administration cross ethical lines in pushing for the approval of the RU-486 abortion pill?
Confidential memos uncovered by the watchdog group, Judicial Watch, show President Clinton and his staff took unprecedented steps to get the drug on the American market. Since its approval, the drug has been linked to the deaths of a number of women.
So far, it’s been on the market for six years. Now, doctors, relatives, and members of Congress want it banned after five questionable deaths and hundreds of injuries. All along, conservative groups have claimed short cuts in the approval process, and that the abortion pill was rushed onto the market.
"We've always been incredibly concerned about the way this drug was approved,” said Lanier Swann of Concerned Women for America. “It was put on the fast track, and that's actually putting it mildly."
The group Judicial Watch went straight to the source, obtaining more than 100 documents from the Clinton Presidential Library. What they found suggests Clinton himself helped get this drug into the hands of women here in America.
"You can read the documents for yourself. What they say flat out is that this is the equivalent of a pro-abortion jihad to bring this about,” Judicial Watch’s Christopher Farrell said.
RU-486 was developed in France, but the memos suggest the Clinton administration wanted it so badly in the U.S. that in his first official act as president, he sent a memo to his Health and Human Services secretary Donna Shalala saying this: "I direct that you promptly assess initiatives by which the department... can promote the testing, licensing, and manufacturing in the United States of RU-486."
"President Clinton put this pill on the fast track for approval to appease the abortion lobby," Swann added.
The drug's manufacturer and parent company had reservations about bringing RU-486 here. They didn't want to be held responsible for any financial lawsuits.
One memo shows how HHS Secretary Shalala and the FDA commissioner at the time, David Kessler, played a persuasive role. It said, "Both Dr. Kessler and I have taken steps to persuade Roussel, Uclaf and Hoechst to change their position."
In another memo, it appears Shalala even tried to get the companies governments involved saying, "The French and German governments might be displeased to learn that their companies are not accommodating a request made by the United States government."
"There's been this big lie that RU-486 was not a political decision or wasn't pressured through politically. That's a lie,” Farrell said. "This is not my opinion. These are Clinton administration documents. Read them for yourself."
These documents come a year after a CBN News investigation showed that the majority of members on the advisory committee that approved RU-486 had direct ties to the abortion industry. The FDA chairman at the time, David Kessler told us the committee process was fair.
"Let me assure you there was no agenda other than making sure that the very best science, that the best experts in the country look at the question,” Kessler said.
Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) told us he's always been skeptical.
"You would hope that the FDA Drug approval process would not be a politicized one because people's health is at risk and yet it looks like it was in this case," Brownback said.
This issue is getting minimal traction on Capitol Hill. A bill that would pull RU-486 off the market has been around for years. There have also been several hearings, including one next week. But for the most part, the FDA has resisted calls to pull the drug.
However growing medical evidence is at least forcing the FDA to take another look. Meeting in Atlanta Thursday, they focused in on the deadly infections caused by the pill. Conservative groups hope that hearing will lead to some sort of action. They're not holding their breath.
"The question here has become how many women have to die before it’s enough?" Swann asked.

Fetus found in Rialto sewer plant

RIALTO, Calif. - A male fetus was found lodged in the filtering system of the city's wastewater treatment plant.
Tuesday morning's discovery led to the plant's closure and police were called. Authorities initially considered the discovery a homicide but a coroner's pathologist later determined the fetus was so small that it could not have survived outside the womb, police said.
"At this point, with the pathologist's determination, we are no longer considering this a criminal offense," said police Detective Kurt Kitterle.
Authorities believe the fetus was flushed into the sewage system because it was found in a bin that holds solid waste, Kitterle said. Most of the sewage that flows into the plant comes from Rialto, with small amounts generated in the nearby cities of Fontana and Bloomington, police said.
No autopsy is planned, Kitterle said.

GIANNA JESSEN STUNS THE COLORADO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!!
Gianna sang the Star Spangled Banner and was introduced on the state house floor today and Rep Harvey explained that she had been a late term abortion
by Planned Parenthood.
There will be a resolution honoring the 90th anniversary of Planned Parenthood debated later today!
You could have heard a pin drop when Ted mentioned she had been aborted after the standing ovation they had given her for her song.
Ted's parting shot was "I just wanted to put a face on the celebration of PP"
He told about the late term abortion by saying "I'm Ted Harvey not Paul Harvey but I do want you to know the rest of Gianna's story!!"

Andrea passed away peacefully a little before 3pm
today, with her family and her friends at her bedside.
We love her so very much and we are going to miss her
terribly. We hope that the battle that we fought for
our sister will bring to light and bear witness to the
horrible acts committed in the name of ethics in
hospitals across the state of Texas.
The fact that we had to fight this battle is both
frightening and a sad commentary on the so-called
"ethics" now being practiced in medical facilities in
this state. The battle for life is a difficult one,
in the best of situations, but when a family is put
through what we had to go through at such a time, it
is especially agonizing.
We wish so much that we could have spent more time at
our sister's side, when she was living and fighting
for her life, rather than having to visit our
attorney's office, give interviews to radio and
television stations to let the public know of the
atrocity about to befall Andrea, and literally stand
outside the hospital and beg them not to kill our
sister. In attempting to deprive Andrea of the most
basic of her human rights--life--St. Luke's Hospital
managed to deprive her family and her of that which is
most dear to us all, when we are faced with the death
of a loved one: a proper goodbye.
How, in the name of God, anyone can call putting
someone to death when they are at their most helpless
and begging for their lives "ethical," we cannot
imagine.

How we praise You, Merciful Father, that Your mercy has overshadowed all attempts to end Andrea's life ... that You have sent others to minister to her ... that You have brought her back from the brink.
How we cry out to You, O God, that You will again intervene for Andrea and her family, not because of merit, but because of mercy. May Your healing manifest itself in blood pressure that can be sustained without medicines ... in the total disappearance of any manifestation of infection ... in a return to a measure of health that will astound, and convict, those who sought to remove her from our midst. Give ear to our plea for a miracle, O God, to the everlasting Glory and Honor of Your Name. Grace Andrea's medical team with wisdom and skill from on high, that they might be instruments of Your healing.
Take pity upon the heart of Andrea's beloved sister ... have mercy upon each one who has whispered Andrea's precious name before the Throne of Grace ... set before an unbelieving world that Creator God walks among His people ... draw near, Blessed Savior, that Andrea might touch the hem of Your garment and be healed.
Let our hearts not be broken again as they were for our beloved Terri, but strengthen and encourage Your children to continually defy the Merchants of Death, in the Power and Strength of God Almighty.
Hear our prayer, O Lord ...

How we praise You, Merciful Father, that Your mercy has overshadowed all attempts to end Andrea's life ... that You have sent others to minister to her ... that You have brought her back from the brink.
How we cry out to You, O God, that You will again intervene for Andrea and her family, not because of merit, but because of mercy. May Your healing manifest itself in blood pressure that can be sustained without medicines ... in the total disappearance of any manifestation of infection ... in a return to a measure of health that will astound, and convict, those who sought to remove her from our midst. Give ear to our plea for a miracle, O God, to the everlasting Glory and Honor of Your Name. Grace Andrea's medical team with wisdom and skill from on high, that they might be instruments of Your healing.
Take pity upon the heart of Andrea's beloved sister ... have mercy upon each one who has whispered Andrea's precious name before the Throne of Grace ... set before an unbelieving world that Creator God walks among His people ... draw near, Blessed Savior, that Andrea might touch the hem of Your garment and be healed.
Let our hearts not be broken again as they were for our beloved Terri, but strengthen and encourage Your children to continually defy the Merchants of Death, in the Power and Strength of God Almighty.

PRAYERS FOR ANDREA CLARK!!!
Leslie,
Andrea had her gall bladder drained yesterday and now
she seems to be getting worse. The doctor thought
that she had a block in her gall bladder, but found
nothing.
Since then, Andrea's white count, which is a signal of
infection, has increased and her blood pressure has
dropped so much that she has had to be put back on the
pressor medications that are so hard on the rest of
her organs.
Her doctor, Dr. Lentz, tells us that unless a miracle
happens, he doesn't expect Andrea to live more than a
few days now.
Please pray for Andrea. She needs all the help that
she can get to get through this.

Tienemin Square Redux
China dissident Harry Wu, stood on Colorado’s State Capitol grounds challenging Governor Bill Owens and Chinese Prime Minister, Zhu Rongi’s trade fest inside nearly a decade ago. Last month, Wenyi Wang stood up to another, newer Chinese dictator at a recent Whitehouse ceremony, embarrassing President Bush.
Although Dr. Wang’s shouts to President Hu, that “his days are numbered,” were mostly portrayed by media outlets as the ranting of a madwoman, her courageous challenge may be viewed by historians as another shot heard round the world.
Wenyi Wang sought to alert the listening world to the horrific practice of killing prisoners for their organs sold to wealthy westerners. Specifically, she described the plight of practitioners of Falun Gong, a spiritual movement followed by thousands in China.
As Harry Wu had described earlier in Colorado, political dissidents of all stripes, are routinely executed for transplant tourism. Mr. Wu spent years in the Laogai, the Chinese equivalent of the Gulag, and hoped to educate America about
the plight of Chinese citizens who challenged the brutal Chinese regime.
Video of prisoners lined up in town square and shot in the head was so shocking and horrifying that most were paralyzed by their disbelief that such barbarism could exist in the 20th century. The medical vans wisking the organs to awaiting
recipients gave credence to the insanity of the claims, yet brought little to no action.
Last month, Dr. Wang shouted, “President Bush, stop him from persecuting Falun Gong and stop him from killing.”
Clearly embarrassed at this unexpected turn of events, the Bush administration had the good doctor removed and arrested.
Reverend Pat Mahoney noted that it is “outrageous that the U.S. would roll out the red carpet for a dictator known for crushing human rights while pursuing prison for a woman fighting to end religious persecution and violence.”
Wang sees her actions, not as criminal, but as civil disobedience. Charged with harassing a foreign official, she could possibly serve a federal prison sentence in the nation known around the world for protecting the free speech rights granted by God to her citizens.
Investor’s Business Daily marveled at Wenyi’s incredible timing, shouting her challenge at the moment President Bush was asking Hu Jintao to, “let the Chinese people speak freely!”
The outburst was broadcast by CNN, live but according to internet blogger, Matthew Sheffield, the network feed was, “disrupted for China viewers alone.”
Had their access to Dr. Wang’s outburst not been censored, they might have learned of her motives for shouting to President Hu. Wenyi explains, “I hope to immediately stop the crimes of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners and rescue those facing the danger of live organ removal.”
When the Constitution Party of Colorado brought Harry Wu to speak truth to Governor Owens, few noted. Now Harry Wu has a valuable ally in the fight for human rights in China.
Noting that there are tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners missing, Wang explained, “When I saw President Bush shake Hu Jintao’s hand, I couldn’t help crying out.”
Dr. Wang went to a congressional hearing the day before the White House ceremony hoping to hear two of her peers testify about Falun Gong concerns. After they weren’t allowed to report on what they knew, Wenyi knew she had to act.

ANDREW LONGMAN TO DR. BEVERLY NUCKOLS CLAIM
THAT "TEXAS FUTILE CARE ACT" DOESN'T EXIST!!

Reasonable, Procedural, Justifiable
The reasonable and cogent doctor presents an entirely reasonable and
normative tone in her article "Texas Futile Care Act doesn't exist".
It is reassuring, level, seemingly decent and persuasive that nothing
is deeply wrong.
Unfortunately, this is like the bromides uttered by an MSNBC reporter
after meeting with Sadaam Hussein outside his palace.
The naivete and commitment to the party line is obvious and, indeed,
why not? Don't we all wish that the system and the doctors were
reasonable people, doing reasonable things, carefully following
thoughtful precept with dignity? And so the good doctor intones the
expectation of educated human beings: these doctors are not at all
monsters, they are just doing a reasonable effort towards making
reasonable things work. Sounds great except for the fact that this
is perpendicular to the facts in Andrea Clark's case.
It doesn't matter that the word "futile" isn't mentioned in the law.
It matters that the board considers people futile. It doesn't limit
the activity of monstrous doctors that some conscientious doctors
might not give CPR to someone whose chest would be crushed by it. It
is irrelevant that TADA allegedly doesn't give power to consider the
"quality of life" in determining whether to kill a living patient.
It matters only that now, post-TADA, doctors do it. It does not matter
that doctors and nurses we know wouldn't preclude taking in a patient
whom another hospital had rejected - nurses don't make those decisions,
administrators talking to insurance companies do. It does not matter
that the author thinks a "conspiracy" is necessary to get all the
hospitals in Houston, of which there are heaps within a stone's throw,
a literal stone's throw, of St. Luke's, to deny care; it happened and
it was easy and whatever the heck you call it, it's endemic,
institutional.
It doesn't matter that nice words are written in nice procedures.
It matters that when you give doctors power to kill people, they do it
and they ignore moral truth.
But what does matter can be seen in this, "Much more likely is that the
medical judgements of one doctor and ethics committee are trusted to be
valid by the other hospitals and that the other facilities would reach
the same conclusion..." and in it we can see how the "conspiracy" is
easily maintained: doctors have come to think that doctors are god.
I remember when Grandma was cantankerous. Uncle Bob would tell us that
all we had to do was get a doctor to say it and then in Granny's mind it
became law. Her devotion was cute. But doctors' devotion to the
principle that, since God is not legally in the room then they must be
god themselves, has reached a pandemic scale. The irrational gifts that
society has been bestowing on them - the ability to decide the life and
death of the innocent - is rushing so fast to their head they are in a
perpetual state of red out; blood blinds their consciousness.
And our friend writing says it well: one demi-god believes another.
When one says "she must die" they all defer. It was the same idiocy
with the legal cabal in Florida when Greer murdered Terri Schiavo slow:
Greer ruled "she must die" so we, the bar, all believed. After all, is
he not an infallible like unto us?
Indeed, conspiracies are easily sustained by collusion. They are
all sunk to the same music and unaware of a world outside their own
judgement. And that is why it is especially wicked for another doctor
or hospital not to review it. Such turns the decisions of the MD class
not into matters of science, but into matters of spiritist utterance.
Science is a matter of constant cross-examination, questioning, and
objective verification. Death sentences unchallenged are rites of human
sacrifice. Any doctor asked who wouldn't object and want to review
Andrea's case is a criminal-priest, not a scientist.
It is really amusing that the writer goes on to say that it just
isn't necessary to transfer Andrea to a hospital where they don't want
to murder her even a little bit. After all, the writer notes, if
another hospital can be found, the first hospital loses all legal right
to murder her. In light of the fact that the writer has just told us
that, due to professional deference, it is virtually assured that all
other hospitals are going to conclude the same as the first one, we
have to wonder what her goal is? All other hospitals will say she's
futile, there's no need to move her to another hospital because this
first hospital will protect her if another can be found, and no other
hospitals will be found because they will all agree with the first one.
So in asserting she doesn't need to be moved, the writer asserts there
is no reason to save her life because the judgement has been
professional.
But the self-referent madness spills out of this narrative. This doctor
who is writing, like all the others, are about, exclusively, preserving
the purview of authority for their profession and defending all
arbitrary increases of that authority. The new breed of doctors gets
high on the fact that, in a secularised society, they are the new
demi-gods, the ones with power over life and death of the innocent. So
here we have someone trying to protect this power. How distasteful.
The closing clause is highly indicative of this self-worship, this
concept that "we doctors are the only intelligent source of consequence
in the room". On discovering that Andrea reverses course, fails to
die, fails to allow herself to be killed, the doctor writes, "I would
sure want to reevaluate my earlier decision and celebrate if the care
given by myself and my colleagues had been more successful than we
predicted." The care from ME and MY COLLEAGUES! Ha! It had
NOTHING to do with ANDREA'S FIGHTING SPIRIT or GOD'S SOVEREIGN DECISION
eh? Of course maybe the doctor reflects on those as quaint
afterthoughts but certainly not as a matter of FIRST CONSEQUENCE.
The maxim holds: doctors are gods. All else is psychology. And note
that the only reason for reevaluating a decision to kill a woman is
that the woman accidentally recovers. Reevaluation has nothing to do,
again, with the fact that ANDREA WANTS TO LIVE AND HER FAMILY WANTS HER
TO LIVE AND HER FAMILY BELIEVED SHE COULD RECOVER. It's all "me"
focused: I believed I will reevaluate My diagnosis so I can learn
something and I will be surprised about how My treatment worked.
It used to be that medicine was patient focused. Now its all about
the free religious expression of doctors. And their religion is them.
Ultimately what all this does is attack society. A small and then
growing number of doctors will arbitrarily kill people. This will lead
to it becoming institutional. People will inevitably protest, slam the
doctors, just as I am now doing. The good doctors will protest, the
bad ones act offended. A natural split between doctor and patient will
grow until we are like the Netherlands: armed guards sitting at the foot
of the bed to defend the patient against the hospital staff. In time
this will result in open violence: a family member who has seen their
loved one murdered and who has no legal recourse will satisfy justice
via the vigilante. And this is the loss and break down of society.
We are seeing the similar loss of confidence in the judiciary.
All of this can be corrected and avoided by simply returning to
normative medical and judicial ethics. "Do no harm" is an excellent
place to start. In other words, doc, you care for them till the bitter
end and you let God be God - as though he knows when to take
one of his creatures home. We destroy our very fabric of social order
when we legally require doctors to abandon the Hippocratic oath. We
assault the institutions of government when judges or legislators may
decree that the innocent must be killed.
I would much rather hear this doctor issue a level, thoughtful, educated
review of how giving the power to murder to a physician is evil and
leads to social rupture and medical incompetence. Indeed, what does a
healer say about a healer who has turned to committed killing? What does
it lead to more and better of, healing or killing?
Killing.

growing number of doctors will arbitrarily kill people. This will lead
to it becoming institutional. People will inevitably protest, slam the
doctors, just as I am now doing. The good doctors will protest, the
bad ones act offended. A natural split between doctor and patient will
grow until we are like the Netherlands: armed guards sitting at the foot
of the bed to defend the patient against the hospital staff. In time
this will result in open violence: a family member who has seen their
loved one murdered and who has no legal recourse will satisfy justice
via the vigilante. And this is the loss and break down of society.
We are seeing the similar loss of confidence in the judiciary.
All of this can be corrected and avoided by simply returning to
normative medical and judicial ethics. "Do no harm" is an excellent
place to start. In other words, doc, you care for them till the bitter
end and you let God be God - as though he knows when to take
one of his creatures home. We destroy our very fabric of social order
when we legally require doctors to abandon the Hippocratic oath. We
assault the institutions of government when judges or legislators may
decree that the innocent must be killed.
I would much rather hear this doctor issue a level, thoughtful, educated
review of how giving the power to murder to a physician is evil and
leads to social rupture and medical incompetence. Indeed, what does a
healer say about a healer who has turned to committed killing? What does
it lead to more and better of, healing or killing?

Andrea Clark's life hangs in the balance in Houston, Texas as her hospital, St. Luke's, is preparing to remove medical care from her Tuesday, based upon the "ethics" committee opinion that treatment is "futile care" in her case.
Although Andrea Clark has good insurance, the Texas futile care law states that "If either the family does not seek an extension or the judge fails to grant one, futile treatment may be unilaterally withdrawn by the treatment team with immunity from civil or criminal prosecution. [2]"
Is anyone safe in a hospital anymore when the law protects the facility from civil and criminal prosecution for deciding that a person is no longer worthy of living?
Richard Carpenter Jr. should be immediately disqualified from being able to even comment on a matter involving ethics, having spent years terminating the lives of innocent pre-born babies.
Clark's sister, Lanore Dixon, exclaimed, "St. Luke's has agreed not to pull Andrea's life support at least until Tuesday. On Tuesday, a committee of doctors from St. Luke's will meet to discuss how to proceed with Andrea's case. Andrea's new doctor-a doctor who shares our values about the sacredness of life-will take over her care on Tuesday and will fight for her right to live. ST. LUKE'S ETHICS CHAIR FORMER ABORTIONIST!?!?!?!?!?

GET ANDREA TO A SAFE HOUSE!!!
This afternoon, twenty minutes before Andrea was due to be transported by ambulance to the airport, her doctor (or rather, the one filling in for her doctor who has gone on vacation this week–how VERY convenient!) came into her room and informed me she would not be transferred to the Chicago facility after all. After questioning the doctor I learned that someone messed up–I don’t know which end the foul up occurred, but this all goes to show the danger of being forced to choose a healthcare facility due to pressure of an ethics committee ruling… This so called LTAC was nothing more than a nursing home with dialysis machine in the basement. They had no ability to administer the medications Andrea requires.
Somehow, the blogosphere knew about the inadequacy of the LTAC before either the family or the hospital did–probably due to me posting the new mailing address where Andrea can recieve cards and letters. Don’t use the Illinois address, folks!
While we’re grateful that St. Luke’s halted the transfer before Andrea was moved, I cannot tell you the stress this has put on our family. We are exhausted from this effort, but we will continue to fight for our sister.
St. Luke’s has agreed not to pull Andrea’s life support at least until Tuesday. On Tuesday, a committee of doctors from St. Luke’s will meet to discuss how to proceed with Andrea’s case. Andrea’s new doctor–a doctor who shares our values about the sacredness of life–will take over her care on Tuesday and will fight for her right to live. I just got more information on this:
The hospital in Chicago, which St. Luke's suggested
that Andrea be transported to, has no facilities that
have the required equipment to meet Andrea's needs.
Seems like St. Luke's should have known this before
contacting them, in the first place, but who knows
what's going on in their heads?
We are trying to get, but have received no guarantee
that St. Luke's will not pull life support on Andrea
on Sunday.
We are in tears here. We were willing to make the
sacrifice to pull up stakes here and go to a strange
city, to save our sister's life. Now we just don't
know what to do. It seems like we're back to square
one.

Some of you might remember my posting on DU about my sister, Andrea Clark, for whom St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston was threatening to terminate care. Andrea would have died had St. Luke's been successful. Because of DU and others, Andrea is now being transferred to a facility in Chicago, Illinois. They have no futile care law in Chicago, so Andrea will be okay there.
Andrea is now showing some signs of improvement, although slight. She has endocarditis, which takes about four months, at best, to resolve itself. It's going to be a long road back for her, if she makes it, but I want to thank the mods here and Skinner, for helping us to get the word out.
I have to tell you, too, that the right to life people were with us on this all the way. And we never made a secret of the fact that we were Democrats, either. They are an absolutely formidable force. I don't know what we would have done without them. They pinned St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital to the wall with calls, emails, blogs, radio interviews, etc. St. Luke's is so utterly happy to get my sister out of that hospital ALIVE, if it weren't so tragic, it would be almost comical.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that this had a happy outcome, and express our family's thanks for your help.

TO ENCOURAGE ANDREA CLARK!!!
Just spoke to sister, Melanie Childers, who is about to send me
names of the individuals foisting the death agenda on Andrea.
The family is fighting mad and readying for a lawsuit if anything
happens to their sister.
They are still attempting to find a doctor who will transfer her to a facility
that isn't in cahoots - tough assignment.
Social worker, Pat Bissonnett is still causing them distress and pain and
is of no help.

The family is interested in the Avalon facility in San Antonio but doubt whether Andrea could make the long haul there from Houston.

When Andrea's care is removed on April 30, that will be catastrophic, since
she is on a ventilator.
Keep praying that it doesn't come to that.

ANOTHER ANDREA CLARK UPDATE
Ok,
I spoke to Melanie as well as Ms Muse - the public affairs
person for the hospital. Ms. Muse told me that the family
hasn't granted permission for her to speak. I told her that
I planned to call Melanie and even was planning to come to
Houston.
Life support is to be removed on April 30, without some
major shift in things.
I suggested they search for another hospital - seems as tho
all Houston hospitals are going to deny her care but I think
some outlying might grant it.
Andrea is on dialysis every few days as well as a respirator, so they
can't take her home.
Social worker, Pat Bissonnett told the family that Andrea told her
she wanted to die. Even the docs in the room looked at their
shoes, since everyone knew she was lying. Andrea pushes the social
worker away whenever she approaches.
An Episcopal priest Father Fronig has told the family that Andrea wants
to die. They reject the social worker and the priest's assessment.
Geri Ward, their attorney, is advocating strongly for Andrea.
At last weekend's protest, they had around 12-15. Most had lost family
members at Houston's St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital due to similar circumstances, having been told
that their loved one wanted to die.
We really need to step it up several notches.
Andrea has a heart ailment from birth, but now has enocarditis.
Melanie believes if they can cure that with antibiotics, she
will be able to get off the respirator.
Please pass along any ideas you have on how else we might
lend our talents to this woman's plight and keep praying.
She is very communicative when they don't over medicate her!!
Melanie said she was asking for a Whataburger. Then when word
about something like that gets out, they turn up the meds to
make her uncommunicative.

Colorado Mourns 39th Anniversary of America's First Abortion Law

Mega-retailer stands up to religious right, stocks ‘Brokeback’
It’s not often that Wal-Mart, the ubiquitous destroyer of small businesses everywhere, earns high praise for a corporate decision. But this week, the mega-retailer stood its ground and resisted calls from the American Family Association to refuse to sell the “Brokeback Mountain” DVD.
Wal-Mart even promoted the DVD in displays featuring the gay characters portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger.
“It wasn't even a blockbuster movie, so if Wal-Mart isn't trying to push an agenda, why would they put it at the front door?" Randy Sharp, director of special projects for the association, told the L.A. Times.
Actually, Randy, “Brokeback” has made more than $165 million worldwide on a production budget of just $14 million. If that ain’t a blockbuster, I don’t know what is. And that number doesn’t include DVD sales, which will no doubt be tremendous.
Some will say that Wal-Mart is just greedy and knows a hot-selling product when it sees it. But the behemoth is uber-popular in the red states where the American Family Association and other so-called Christian groups hold lots of influence.
So, just this once, kudos to Wal-Mart.

Terri Schiavo's Former Husband Attacks Tom DeLay After Resignation

Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The feud between retiring pro-life Congressman Tom DeLay and Terri Schiavo's former husband Michael is not as old as the legal battle with Terri's family, but intense nonetheless. After DeLay made an announcement that he is retiring his Congressional seat, Michael released a statement attacking him.
Schiavo claimed "there's no question " that DeLay retired in part because he supposedly didn't want to face voters in November after having sided with the Schindler family against Michael's desire to kill Terri.
"After what he did to Terri and me, he no longer deserved the public trust that he had been given," Michael said, applauding DeLay's decision to step down from public office.
“I hope Mr. DeLay's actions in the Congress and the political costs associated with it will be a warning to other lawmakers that Congress just does not belong in the personal and private lives of Americans," Michael threatened.
After Circuit Court Judge George Greer finalized his order allowing Michael to euthanize Terri and state and federal courts refused to review the decision, DeLay said the judges who abrogated Terri's right to live would be held responsible.
"The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior," DeLay said at the time, adding that the House "will look at an arrogant and out of control judiciary that thumbs its nose at Congress and the president."
Later DeLay apologize for the strong words but maintained his position that the courts gave the Schindler family the shaft in their legal efforts to save her life.
DeLay's remarks earned him Michael Schiavo's ire and Terri's former husband placed him at the top of the list for lawmakers to be defeated when he announced the creation of a new political action committee in December.
The PAC will target pro-life lawmakers who sided with the Schindlers. The PAC is expected to oppose pro-life Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum's election and also targets President Bush and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist on its web site.
The Schindler family, meanwhile, has set up a new organization to help disabled people like Terri receive appropriate medical care and treatment.

ones, who wouldn't stop until Terri died and was cremated, in order to cover up the evidence.
I pray nearly every day for God's perfect justice to be served
upon Terri's tormentors and for Him to bless every effort of
the very classy Schindlers.
Mr. Delusional still persists, keeping many of us more committed than ever to see him behind bars.

I debated Phd Wood who (resigned the FDA over its failure to approve MAP for otc use)
kept telling the viewers how safe Plan B is. She repeated her mantra that it is "safer
than aspirin" in response to numerous challenges that I raised.
My parting shot was that "You are the folks telling us that RU-486 is safe and we
know women are dying!" She was outraged and screetched that Plan B isn't RU-486.
That may be the only correct thing she said.
Imagine my amazement upon leaving the debate and learning about
another two women who have died from RU-486.
Will women ever recognize their unique value as those who alone can carry
the Creator given gift of life into posterity?

PURIM REVISITED! IS THE ADL CORRECT??

On March 2, 2005 around our nation, Hadassah had a national Date with the State lobby day for SOS. Their State of Stem Cells presentation encouraging California style
funding for ESCR embryonic stem cell research. That SOS really ought to be
a call to help embryonic life in our nation.

Having been the target of Hitler’s destructive march for eugenic purity, these descendents
of Auschwitz should be working over time to protect innocent life. They of all humans on the planet should be familiar with the beautiful story of Queen Esther and how the Lord used her to save His people.
Taking a human life to potentially find a cure for another human, is reminiscent of the heinous German notion of using the skin of murdered Jews to create lampshades. Have the memories of the holocaust grown so dim as to no longer serve as a morality check on today’s human psyche?
Pro-lifers are accused of opposing stem cell research. An honest assessment of the
opposition would reveal that they, to a person, support ethical stem cell research
which does not destroy human life.
Adult stem cell research has produced a variety of amazingly marvelous improvements
in the health status of the incapacitated. Embryonic stem cell research has to date produced no successful cures. In fact, harmful effects like teratomas have resulted.
With embryonic cells being undifferentiated, tumors of hair and baby teeth can
occur with implantations of ECSR.
The largest women’s group, Hadassah, should re-read the book of Esther and become
well versed in its lessons, before Purim, March 14.

To the Editor:
There are important philosophical issues in the debate over embryonic stem cell funding. Reasonable people can differ on questions of when life begins, or whether adult stem cell research is more promising. But it is never acceptable to descend to the level of offensive argument that appears in Leslie Hanks' letter of March 11 in The Colorado Statesman.
Instead of debating the merits of the issue, Ms. Hanks dwells on the Jewish roots of Hadassah, an international women's group, which encouraged the General Assembly to look into funding stem cell research.
Moreover, it is highly offensive, inflammatory, disrespectful and inappropriate to compare stem cell research to find cures for human disease with the Holocaust, in which the Nazis murdered six million Jews and others. Ms. Hanks has the audacity to tell Jews how they should think, believe and act in light of her interpretation of Jewish history and biblical stories.
Legitimate debate on important issues of the day is welcomed in our democracy. Diatribes focused on the religion of one's opponents and what they "should" believe are not appropriate, and deserve to be rejected by the readers of this publication.

On March 2, 2005 around our nation, Hadassah had a national Date with the State lobby day for SOS. Their State of Stem Cells presentation encouraging California style
funding for ESCR embryonic stem cell research. That SOS really ought to be
a call to help embryonic life in our nation.

The appalling starvation of Dylan is evidence of the limitless cruelty the compassion in dying movement will accept in order to remain faithful
to its mantra, "Better Dead Than Disabled."
Just prior to Christmas 2005, The Denver Post carried an exclusive, titled "Letting Go: Dylan’s Last Days. Two parents face an agonizing test of faith and love for their son." The piece raised great alarm for Colorado Right to Life. The special report is still available on line and chronicles the 24-day starvation death of 4-year-old Dylan Walborn of Broomfield, Colorado. The article states that The Denver Post agreed (ed.- perhaps "conspired" is more accurate) with the parents to withhold publication of the story until Dylan’s passing.
Dylan suffered with severe seizures from Cerebral Palsy, and even though the euthanasia movement has convinced the mainstream media that it is merciful to starve to death terminally ill patients, The Denver Post did not even raise the objection that Dylan was not dying, nor terminally ill. He was severely disabled.
The article makes the claim that the parents sought and received an approval to euthanize their son from Children’s Hospital, and from their pastor, Buddy Conn. The Denver Post omitted the name of Westminster’s Victory Church, where pastor Conn ministers. Victory has denied that they were aware of the parents’ decision to starve Dylan. Kevin Simpson, The Denver Post author of "Letting Go," told Colorado Right to Life that he stands by his story. To date the pastors of Victory Church have not publicly repudiated their reported involvement in the matter.

PRO-LIFE SLICE OF LIFE!!
Driving away from the killing clinic, she uttered a silent prayer. “Lord, let some of
the women change their hearts and minds. Father God, put obstacles in the way
of the abortionist that he might not be able to destroy the gifts of life, you’ve
so beneficently bestowed. Lord, I pray that the clinic workers will be horrified
by what they do. Let them dream about the blood that is on their hands.”
She was distracted as she drove by the sight of a disheveled black man, sitting street-side on a dusty side yard.
“He’s probably drunk,” she thought continuing toward the golf course
club house, where several rescuers had agreed to gather.
A myriad of thoughts bubbled in her sub-conscious as the car
progressed another two blocks. Her own father and brother might have been
that individual at another point in history.
“Kind of a strange place to be sitting,” popped into her mind. “What if he is
more than inebriated?” nagged at the back of her mind.
Putting the car into reverse, she backed up to where he sat.
“Are you ok?” she asked. He said, “No!”
“Are you intoxicated?” she continued.
“I think I’m having a heart attack!” he shouted. “Oh, my God,” she thought.
She grabbed her cell phone and jumped out of her car, racing to the man’s side.
Dialing 911, she told the dispatcher that she was at 20th and Gaylord by the side
of a man she had found, who believed he was having a heart attack.
Other pro-life rescuers assembled around the elderly gentleman as he screamed out
for his mother. Ken asked his name, Jo shouted, “Where does your mom live?”
In the ensuing chaos, Ralph told us his name and that his mom lived around the corner
just before going into a minor seizure.
Jo ran to his mother’s house while Ken lent comfort and the conversation with
the dispatcher continued.
“Please hurry,” “Oh Jesus, don’t let him die,” she spoke into the mobile phone.
Neighbors of the killing clinic who regularly criticized this group stopped, on their
way to church, upon seeing the commotion.
Ralph did admit, to those trying to help him, that he had been drinking – in between
seizing and sitting up calling out for his mom.
His history of cirrhosis came to light as the paramedics and the fire truck arrived very
shortly after the initial call was made.
Jo and Ralph’s mother arrived to support him as he was gingerly placed upon the
gurney, for what must have been “another” trip to the hospital.
As the crowd dispersed, she wondered what the neighbors were thinking of those
they regularly criticized for shouting to moms going in to kill their babies.
Would they recognize that their care for life transcended the pre-born to all
made in God’s image?
Would they see the connection on their way to worship? Would they care? Would they
join them in their quest for “justice for all” sometime in the future?

the momentary detour from her life’s yearning.

South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds
South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds today signed into law a highly restrictive anti-abortion bill aimed ultimately at overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
The legislation, passed last month by state lawmakers, bans abortion in nearly every case and punishes doctors who perform one with a $5,000 fine and five years in prison.
The bill allows abortion only in the event a mother's life is in danger, making no exception for rape or incest.
South Dakota Planned Parenthood, which operates the state's sole abortion clinic, has said it will challenge the law.
Rounds said in a written statement he expects the law will be tied up in court for years and will not be enacted unless upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.
"In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society," Rounds said. "The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them."
Prior to the signing, an anonymous donor pledged $1 million to help the state defend the new statute.
Last week, Rounds was in Washington for a National Governors Association meeting where he found more pledges of donations and the support of some of his colleagues across the nation.
"There is a lot of interest in it here," Rounds said, according to the Associated Press. "And there are a number of states that have similar legislation. A lot of governors expressing support and wishing us good luck and suggesting that they will have similar types of proposals that may very well be favorably looked upon across the United States."
State lawmakers in Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Indiana also are considering legislation that would heavily restrict abortions.
National pro-life activists, who are urging supporters to send $10 to Rounds to support the state's defense, chose South Dakota as its first vehicle to challenge the Roe decision.
They believe that if a legal challenge ever reaches high court, the recent addition of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the bench makes it more disposed than ever to overturn the 1973 ruling.
As WorldNetDaily reported, South Dakota's House of Representatives passed a similar bill in 2004 by a 54-14 vote, before its narrow defeat in the Senate, 18-17. The bill actually initially passed the Senate, but Rounds issued a "style and form" veto, sending the bill back with wording changes to make sure existing abortion restrictions were not threatened if the bill were struck down in court.
In 2004, two pro-life groups clashed over the demise of the previous measure. The public-interest Thomas More Law Center, which helped draft the bill, accused National Right to Life of "complicity" with pro-abortion groups for lobbying against it.

Washington, DC - Feb 28, 2006 The United States Supreme Court issued an unanimous ruling today finally clearing pro-life protesters of a 20-year old suit brought by NOW under the Federal Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations (RICO) laws. Joseph Scheidler, a long- time pro-life activist from Chicago, took the lead in defending the case on behalf of over 20 defendants, including Operation Rescue.
In an historic third trip to the nation’s highest court, Justice Stephen Breyer issued the unanimous opinion clearly stating that the case is over and that pro- lifers may not be sued under RICO. This decision also puts an end to a nationwide injunction against the protesters.
“We are very excited to finally see this case put behind us once and for all,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “This is a victory not only for pro-lifers, who can now exercise their First Amendment rights to speak out about abortion without fear of a RICO suit, but it is also a victory for the women and babies who are entering our nation’s abortion mills, who now will have greater access to more information and practical assistance that can help them spare the lives of their pre-born children.”

Death for rapists, not their unborn children - Denver Post Letters February 28, 2006
South Dakota passed a bill to end abortions that doesn't include an exemption for cases of rape. That bothers some people. Their thinking, as told in an Associated Press article, is that if a rape victim becomes pregnant and bears a child, the rapist could have the same parental rights as the mother.
The idea that, to prevent a living rapist from being a father of a living child, some think it best to let the rapist live and to kill the child, instead of the other way around, is incredibly moronic.
Obviously, one better solution is to add convicted rapists to the list of those eligible for the death penalty. That would forever rid the child and all of society of a rapist in our lives. Another can be addressed by the legislature and/or the courts wherein rapists have no parental rights whatsoever over any child conceived during a rape.
The fact is that we don't have to think that the only solution is to kill the rapist's children, whether born or unborn, when other solutions are available.

Chicago is no longer my kind of town. It's a liberal Democrat kind of town. It's a town with a gay and lesbian center – funded by taxpayers. It's a town that aborts over 20,000 of its residents a year. It's Jesse Jackson's home town. It's a town where Republicans meet in catacombs. It's a town where even Catholic priests vote 4-to-1 Democrat.
So imagine my surprise when last week the overpowered Cook County Republican Party issued a press release accusing Democrat tyrants of abusing their most prized possession, African Americans.
In conjunction with Black History Month, the Chicago GOP wrote a profound pro-life editorial blaming the Democrat "pro-slavery" Party of "black genocide" because of its pro-abortion position:
One of the most infamous cases ever decided by a Democrat-controlled court was the Dred Scott case ... The result of Dred Scott was to strip African Americans of their standing under the law and thereby prevent them from ever exercising political power for the good of their people. Roe v. Wade subtly accomplishes the same ends by a different means.
The black population is curbed by convincing black mothers that their unborn children are only property which will financially destroy them, so it is in their interests and the interests of society to kill them. African Americans can thank the Democratic Party and its unyielding support for Roe v. Wade ... for today's veritable black genocide. Today's Democrats continue to advocate a society in which certain people are stripped of their humanity and denied political power.
Score a major hit for the GOP.
I don't know what got into those scrappy Republicans, but they weren't finished. They next took aim at Planned Parenthood:
Recent statistics indicate that since 1973, abortion has reduced the black population by over 25 percent. Because abortion has been aggressively peddled to innercity black communities, black babies today are three times more likely to be killed in the womb than white babies. Abortion kills twice as many black babies as AIDS, accidents, violent crimes, cancer and heart disease combined. Although it is possible that Planned Parenthood and its ilk are racially blind, 80 percent of Planned Parenthood facilities are located in minority neighborhoods.
Score a second major hit for the Republicans. Chicago's Planned Parenthood isn't accustomed to attacks. As the Democrat Party's very public mistress, Planned Parenthood is considered untouchable.
I blogged on the Cook County Republican Party's brave effort to bring the truth about the racist agenda of Democrats and Planned Parenthood to African Americans.
I linked in my blog post to an ad by LifeCommercials.com titled, "Why?" This ad exposes the eugenic agenda of Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger. I isolated one of Sanger's quotes from the ad as an illustration for my post: "We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population ..."
One place I blog is Illinoize, a gathering hole of political bloggers in the Land Formerly of Lincoln. Illinoize is inhabited predominantly by liberals. I didn't quite fathom before I blogged how sacred are the Democrat Party and Planned Parenthood cows to liberals. But here is one sample of 139 mostly furious comments I received:
Jill Stanek is an animal. Absolutely an animal, and the Cook County GOP, the most irrelevant political organization in the country, is disgusting, and whatever hack consulting firm they're using for this ... are (sic) hate-mongering punks. Margaret Sanger said those words but, of course, meant the exact opposite – she was quoting a concern.
Stanek, you are a misleader, a liar, intellectually dishonest, a queen of the facile analogy, and best of all politically and socially irrelevant. Pathetic. This is absolutely disgusting, and you deserve this type of vitriol, because that is the kind of hate and vitriol you're putting out into the world.
And you thought I was exaggerating about those sacred cows.
Meanwhile, just as Indians revere their untouchable sacred cows while people lay dying in ignorance all around them, so do African Americans continue to revere their two sacred cows.
But I have hope.
Historically speaking, cows don't fare well in Chicago. It was a cow, after all, that kicked over Mrs. O'Leary's lantern and started the Great Chicago Fire.
It's only a matter of time before history repeats, and these two cows torch themselves due to their abortion obsession.

My name is Bobby Schindler. My sister was Terri Schiavo.
On March 31st of 2005, Terri died of starvation and thirst after having her feeding tube removed by court order on the hearsay testimony of her husband, Michael.
My sister lived in a neurologically compromised state for reasons that are still unknown and my family wanted nothing from anyone but to be granted the permission to care for Terri for the span of her natural life. We were denied.
Terri tenaciously fought for her life for more than 13 days after being deprived of the most basic, natural and constant need that we all share – the need for nourishment – food and water. Terri was not on a respirator, not terminally ill, not dying and not succumbing to any killer disease. She was disabled. She was dependent on others. But, she was still very much a life, a woman and a person.
Throughout the entire history of mankind, never was it held that food and water constituted “medical care”. Our nation now claims food and water to be “medical treatment” instead of ordinary care, to facilitate their removal from persons deemed by the medical industry or the courts as “unworthy of life” primarily for economic reasons. Persons like Terri, with injuries and disabilities, are seen as not being worthy of life, not worth the investment.
It is beyond comprehension that we are seeing a culture of death impose its will upon society’s weakest and most vulnerable members. Every human being is endowed by his or her Creator with inestimable worth. Therefore no human being or agency has the authority to pronounce an innocent person such as my sister as “unworthy of life.”
We, as a society, are standing on a cliff with two clear and utterly polarized choices that we can make: Either we value each other – in spite of disability, or we despise each other based on those limitations.
I urge those in leadership to afford the protections to all weak and vulnerable people which were denied to my sister Terri.

WHO IS HALEIGH POUTRE?
Where are Tookie's supporters now?
I have a question for the hordes of bleeding-heart Hollywood stars who joined the "Save Tookie" brigade, bowed their heads in prayer with ex-Crip gangster Snoop Dogg and the Rev. Jesse Jackson and pleaded to save the life of convicted murderer Stanley "Tookie" Williams, and who lobbied so hard for the government to err on the side of life.
Where are you now?
In Boston, an innocent girl was sentenced to death by the state. Her name is Haleigh Poutre. Last fall, she was hospitalized after her stepfather allegedly burned her and beat her unconscious with a baseball bat. Haleigh was kept alive by a feeding tube and ventilator. Doctors said she was "virtually brain dead." They said she was in a "persistent vegetative state." The medical professionals pronounced her "hopeless."
Less than three weeks after Haleigh's hospitalization, the Massachusetts Department of Social Services was raring to remove Haleigh's feeding and breathing tubes. Even her biological mother (deemed unfit to care for Haleigh and whose former boyfriend was accused of sexually abusing the child) wanted her put to death. The only person who wanted Haleigh alive was her stepfather, who will likely be charged with murder if Haleigh dies.
Insane decision
Earlier this month, the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled in favor of killing Haleigh, saying it was "unthinkable" to give the power to make a life-and-death decision to the man accused of putting Haleigh in a coma. Instead, the court did something just as unthinkable: It handed that power to the same child welfare agency that had failed time and time again to protect Haleigh.
According to the Boston Herald, a report by her court-appointed guardian showed that the Massachusetts Department of Social Services had received 17 reports of abuse or neglect involving Haleigh in the three years before her adoptive mother and stepfather were charged with pummeling her into a coma.
"State can let beaten girl die," the headlines trumpeted. But there was just one small complication for all of those who, for whatever reason, were in such a rush to let Haleigh die:
Haleigh is fighting to live.
As state officials prepared to remove Haleigh's life support, she began breathing on her own, responding to stimuli and showing signs of emerging from what doctors had deemed a hopeless condition. Everyone had given up on Haleigh -- except Haleigh.
Unbelievably, the state had weaned Haleigh off her breathing tube before the state Supreme Court ruled -- but the government failed to inform the court of this. Haleigh's medical records and the social service agency's brief remain sealed.
Politicians in Massachusetts are vowing full-scale investigations of the state's incompetent child welfare bureaucrats. But where's the accountability for the medical experts whose faulty diagnosis led to Haleigh's court-approved death sentence? Will they step forward and reveal themselves? Will they explain how they erred? Will they apologize?
It was the "experts'" unequivocal assessments that led the court to declare Haleigh in "an irreversible vegetative state" and to assert "the child could not see, hear, feel or respond." Now, they admit they were wrong. And Haleigh's life depends on the whims of a hopeless agency that didn't think the court needed to know she was breathing on her own.
Wake up
Haleigh's story is a wake-up call to "right-to-die" ideologues who recklessly put such unlimited trust in the medical profession and the nanny state. With such uncertainty surrounding persistent vegetative state diagnoses, the presumption must be in favor of life. Yet, the "right-to-die" lobby's mantra seems to be: When in doubt, pull it out.
While Haleigh clings to life, I've pondered how we might help persuade the plug-pullers to put off the child's state-sanctioned death sentence. I propose nominating her for a Nobel Prize. It bought Williams five extra years.

BOBBY SCHINDLER DEFENDS HIS SISTER TERRI
Dear Ms. Young,
I'm writing in response to your column, “Haleigh Poutre is no Terri Schiavo”.
After reading all of the dishonesty that you purport as truths in regard to my sister Terri, I have to say that this is not only the most irresponsible article that I have yet to read from the media regarding Terri’s situation, but possibly the most egregious.
You wrote that, “Schiavo had been in a persistent vegetative state for 15 years, and had undergone a barrage of tests showing that she had no higher brain functioning and no consciousness – a fact on which all unbiased medical experts agreed.”
I want to know how you’ve researched Terri’s case, and how you’ve obtained this information. Could it be that you’ve gathered your ‘facts’ from the other opinion pieces similar to the one you’ve written about Terri?
If you are referring to autopsy that ostensibly proved that Terri was PVS, then you are entirely wrong. The Independent Medical Examiner who performed the autopsy, Dr. Jon Thogmartin, went to great lengths to caution those reviewing Terri’s autopsy that a post-mortem, forensic examination could neither confirm nor refute a diagnosis of persistent vegetative state. This is because PVS is a clinical diagnosis based on the behaviors of a living patient and not forensic pathology.
Moreover, Dr. Stephen Nelson – a consulting pathologist who assisted Dr. Thogmartin with the autopsy report – admitted that, while Terri’s symptoms were consistent with PVS, he could not rule out the possibility that Terri was in a minimally conscious state.
And there are numerous pathologists and physicians that have responded to the autopsy finding as being misleading and ambiguous. This information could have been and still can be easily provided to you.
I wonder if you were you aware that – as indicated in Terri’s medical records – she was talking when given rehabilitation in the months following her injury? This completely refutes the PVS diagnosis.
Additionally, did you know that there were more doctors on record with the court (from some of the most distinguished institutions from across the country) stating that Terri was not in PVS than there were doctors that said she was? Furthermore, most of these affidavits (there are more than 42 in total) submitted by these doctors said that if Terri was given proper therapy, her functioning capacity could have improved. Why was this never reported by the media?
Did you know that a recent British Medical Journal has reported that nearly 43% of all PVS diagnoses are, in fact, misdiagnoses? Based on this report, the Independent Medical Examiner findings, the sworn testimony and affidavits of over 42 physicians, neurologists and other healthcare professionals contradicting that Terri was in PVS, I believe it is incredibly reckless for you to make the sweeping statement that Terri was PVS.
The fact that my sister received no therapy for more than thirteen years, which also was rarely if ever reported by the media, only added to the deterioration of her condition. No autopsy report could have ever determined how much Terri would have improved if she was receiving proper rehabilitation and therapy during the past thirteen years.
To make the statement that, “. . . all unbiased medical experts agreed” as to the condition of my sister is so completely disingenuous that the only conclusion I can draw is that you did absolutely no research into the doctors that evaluated Terri.
Dr. Ronald Cranford, hired by Michael Schiavo, has testified in almost every major case that the removal of the feeding tube should be permitted. He even takes pleasure in the moniker, Dr. Humane Death. To call him ‘unbiased’ is like calling Rush Limbaugh a liberal democrat. And one of the other doctors that testified in my sister trial, Dr. Peter Bambakidis, was later discovered as having ties to same organization as Michael Schiavo’s attorney George Felos.
But aside from all this, what is really sad is that your article and so many others like yours does nothing but discriminate against the disabled by labeling them with this dangerous and subjective PVS diagnosis. The PVS diagnosis was created for one reason and to serve only one purpose – to kill those that are the weakest and most vulnerable among us.
No amount of damage to the brain or level of disability should give anyone the authority to kill. But this is exactly what you are saying - and is now happening all the time - that we can justify the killing of human beings because they have reached a level of profound brain damage that is unacceptable for us to care for them anymore. So, tell me, how long do you give Haliegh to improve before you give up on her and decide that she must die?
What is really shameful though is that I have to respond to articles like yours and defend my sister’s life and explain why her family should have been permitted to love her.
Columnist Nat Hentoff commented on the media and how they have handled my sister’s case. He said that it was so shoddy and inaccurate that it was the worst case of ‘journalistic malpractice’ that he’s seen in 25 years.

Based on this report, the Independent Medical Examiner findings, the sworn testimony and affidavits of over 42 physicians, neurologists and other healthcare professionals contradicting that Terri was in PVS, I believe it is incredibly reckless for you to make the sweeping statement that Terri was PVS.
The fact that my sister received no therapy for more than thirteen years, which also was rarely if ever reported by the media, only added to the deterioration of her condition. No autopsy report could have ever determined how much Terri would have improved if she was receiving proper rehabilitation and therapy during the past thirteen years.
To make the statement that, “. . . all unbiased medical experts agreed” as to the condition of my sister is so completely disingenuous that the only conclusion I can draw is that you did absolutely no research into the doctors that evaluated Terri.
Dr. Ronald Cranford, hired by Michael Schiavo, has testified in almost every major case that the removal of the feeding tube should be permitted. He even takes pleasure in the moniker, Dr. Humane Death. To call him ‘unbiased’ is like calling Rush Limbaugh a liberal democrat. And one of the other doctors that testified in my sister trial, Dr. Peter Bambakidis, was later discovered as having ties to same organization as Michael Schiavo’s attorney George Felos.
But aside from all this, what is really sad is that your article and so many others like yours does nothing but discriminate against the disabled by labeling them with this dangerous and subjective PVS diagnosis. The PVS diagnosis was created for one reason and to serve only one purpose – to kill those that are the weakest and most vulnerable among us.
No amount of damage to the brain or level of disability should give anyone the authority to kill. But this is exactly what you are saying - and is now happening all the time - that we can justify the killing of human beings because they have reached a level of profound brain damage that is unacceptable for us to care for them anymore. So, tell me, how long do you give Haliegh to improve before you give up on her and decide that she must die?
What is really shameful though is that I have to respond to articles like yours and defend my sister’s life and explain why her family should have been permitted to love her.
Columnist Nat Hentoff commented on the media and how they have handled my sister’s case. He said that it was so shoddy and inaccurate that it was the worst case of ‘journalistic malpractice’ that he’s seen in 25 years.
